Digging Deeper - How to Create a New No-Dig Bed

with an unusual ingredient

Welcome to the second in the series of Digging Deeper.

This week I share with you a video originally published on my YouTube channel that I since updated for here, so show you the results.

Whether you want to grow in a pots, raised bed or in a vegetable space in your yard, the principles for this are the same - it is just a matter of size.

Many think we should start with a layer of cardboard to supress the weeds. That’s true, depending on what weeds you have, because some weeds can be very stubborn and persistant, while others not so much of a problem. I think that is why many turn to this method in the belief the weeds will die off - trust me, they don’t. Yes, there will be less, and with regualr hand weeding, will result in die back, but air born seeds will arrive, so stay vigilant.

Here I use a mixture of ingredients - often cardboard is the suggested starting point, but if you can’t get any, then newspaper is a great alternative. Sawdust from untreated wood is another great source.

Creating our beds this way, on any scale has proven to work for me, and at the end of the video you will see the results after just a few weeks.

I hope you enjoy it
